Impromptu Pre-Literacy Lesson in a Mall
While out shopping with my 3 1/2yr old and 12mth old, we decided to play a letter game. My oldest daughter is very interested in letters and print so it worked out beautifully. I gave her a letter to find to a store that we needed to go in to and she ran around looking for the letters. When she found it, she screamed out loud, "I found it". I decided to take it a step further and ask her for the beginning sound of the name. With some assistance, she was able to pronounce the sounds for the letters. This lesson incorporated letter recognition and letter sounds, while having fun shopping!! It really was a win win for everyone!!
